WORKSHOP SERIES #1

Hands-on Bodywork & Yoga For Specific Pain Workshops
These 2 part pain-relieving workshops begin with a 90minute-2 hour Forrest Yoga Class sequenced and guided to activate and open the key muscles involved in the pain and dysfunction of the day’s topic. Yoga is followed by a 3-4 hour Hands-on Bodywork Training. The Bodywork Training includes a slide-show Anatomy lecture*, Demonstrations of Techniques, and Guided Hands-on Bodywork with Partners. *pdf’s of slides given.

Myo-Fascial Meridians- Advanced Anatomy Theory and Bodywork
The Biomechanics of Energy Transference in the Body Tension in a muscle does not end where the muscle ends, instead, it continues moving across our joints via body-wide continuities in our connective tissue system. This course is a study of 6 major Myo-Fascial Meridians, as defined by Anatomy Trains author Thomas Myers, how they affect our structure, energy, and injuries, and how the Myo-Fascial Meridians transfer energy in Yoga asanas. This course will expand greatly your awareness and understanding of how tension or injury in one part of the body affects all of the other parts of the body. And how by working on areas of the body away from sites of pain we can directly affect and influence remediation of the inflamed or injured tissues.

Class Structure:

  • 4-6 hours,
  • 1-2 hour Advanced Anatomy & Biomechanics Lecture on Myo-Fascial Meridian,

Class 1 Rule of Four- Your Toolbox for Assessment

This class will introduce the system of assessment known as the Rule of 4. By using the Rule of 4, students will learn how to address individual needs, instead of applying random massage techniques.

The Rule of 4 begins by understanding where a client stands in the spectrum of pain & pleasure, disease & health, and then identifies the “rate limiting variables” in a person’s lifestyle, body, and mind that keeps them stuck in pain.The Rate Limiting Variables that the Rule of 4 is based upon are: Biomechanics, Blood Chemistry, Scars, & Psyche. This course is about assessing how much these variables affect a person’s health and well-being and then understanding how to help change and better their condition.

Classes 2 & 3 BiomechanicsThe Biomechanical Assessment is based upon understanding the relationship of the Structural Muscles to overall posture. For example-Tight hip flexors will create a short and tight low back, tight chest and shallow breathing create upper back, shoulder, and neck tension.

The major theme for discussion is how Structure Determines Function.. Example- Kyphosis- collapses ribs and lung space in the front-which has an effect upon breath(gas exchange in the body) and function of digestive organs which have the pressure of the ribs collapsing down upon them.

Biomechanics teaches about relationship of Agonistic and and Antagonistic muscles. And how, as one muscle shortens, becomes locked short, inevitably it’s antagonist muscle will become stretched weak and long.

By assessing which structural muscles are locked short- via stretching techniques- we can determine if pain syndromes are rooted in biomechanical tension or stress.

Structural Muscles- Pectoralis minor, Scalenes, Rectus Abdominus, Diaphragm, Erector Spinae, Quadratus Lomborum, Psoas, Rectus Femoris, Piriformis, Peroneals & Tibialis Anterior, Adductors, Hamstrings.

Discussed are Pain Syndromes & Postural Deviations as the relate to Structural Muscles including: Lordosis(Hyperlordosis), Kyphosis, Scoliosis, Cervical Lordosis- Hyperextension of Upper Cervicals, Thoracic Outlet Syndrom, Carpal Tunnel Syndrom, Lower Back Pain & Facet Syndrome, Sciatic Nerve Pain, Flat Foot & High Arch.

Class 4 Opening the Breath- Relationship of Breath to Pain, Biomechanics, & Energy
The Biomechanics of optimal Respiration (Breath) provides balance to an overactive nervous system, helps to release pain and tension, and creates conditions for ideal digestion. Most people breath regularly at about ¼ of their actual breath capacity. Every cell in your body needs oxygen, especially your brain, which consumes 1/3 of the oxygen in your blood. This class teaches you the biomechanics of breath and how to assess what inadequate breath or faulty breath pattern is doing to your to your client and their pain. You will learn both hands-on techniques and breathing techniques to create greater breath capacity and release the physical adhesions that restrict breath’s movement.

Class 5 Blood Chemistry and PainBlood Chemistry Assessment is based upon a clients reaction to medium- light point pressure on areas sensitive to Blood Chemistry. If there are several locations where medium depth pressure causes pain and the feeling like you are pushing into a bruise, then the assessment is that blood chemistry is blocking the release.

Client is educated about Blood and organ cleansing, changes in diets, and if necessary referral to Nutritionist.

Once blood chemistry has improved, client will more pleasure than pain at a medium depth in the sensitive zones. Touch feels better! And once the blood is cleaned, bodywork can be done on the structural complaints that were previously blocked because of the blood’s previous condition.

This course teaches you how to assess if a person’s Blood Chemistry is a major issue in resolving their pain. It will also teach you basic cleansing protocols and nutritional assessments.

Class 6 Scar Tissue & Trauma Assessment

Scars create bio-mechanical pulls in the body’s connective tissue that strain joints by shifting the body’s gravity lines. This years neck pain, was built upon last years upper back and shoulder pain, which was built upon an imbalanced pelvis that was shifted to take the weight off a knee injury 7 years earlier. Scars can be softened, released, and remediated by using Hot Castor Oil Treatments & Scar Tissue Release Massage Techniques- including cross-fiber friction, pin& stretch.

Scars are found out by visual observance and taking a history of injuries and surgeries before a session.

Class 7 Psyche and Emotional Holding
Psyche Assessment is based upon assessing how much energy someone is using in a constant-on defensive tension. This class focuses on understanding what it means for a client to hold “emotional tension” in their body. This can be deep “core tension” from intensively traumatic experiences-physical abuse & violence, sexual abuse & rape, psychological abuse, eating disorders, etc. Emotional Tension creates a constant-on tension that is chronically wasting the body’s “energy economy” and keeping it from truly relaxing and feeling vulnerable.

This class is focused on assessing how much “emotional holding” is happening in a body. We will learn about “high charge” areas of the body where clients are more likely to have emotional holding and the processes of releasing the “charge” through Emotional Release Bodywork or alternative talking therapies. We will learn about the Autonomic Nervous System and the implications “emotional holding” has on your clients level of pain, speed of healing, and energetic vitality.

MOVING STUCK ENERGY – Hands-on Bodywork in Yoga Asanas
1. Moving Stuck Energy- Releasing the Neck & Shoulders in Savasana
Explore visually & kinesthetically what makes the neck & shoulders physically and anatomically unique. Through an engaging lecture on the energetics and physicality of the neck and shoulder girdle, you will learn about what gets locked up in this area of the body and how to help. Then observe and use specialized hands-on Bodywork Techniques to assist a partner in deeply moving energy to open the Scalene muscles, Pectoralis minor, & suboccipital muscles for a sublime savasana experience. No partner necessary- you will be paired up during the workshop.

2. Moving Stuck Energy- Releasing the Lower Back and Hips in Spinal Twists
Learn the anatomy of the low back and pelvis in an engaging and hands-on way. Through visually seeing, then kinesthetically embodying the muscles of the low back, you will leave with a deeper understanding of the anatomy of this area and how to more effectively assist its opening and release. Experience giving and receiving powerful hands-on Bodywork Techniques designed to address the flow of energy and structural complaints in the Piriformis muscles, Tensor Fascia Latae (TFL), Erector Spinae muscles, & Quadratus Lomborum. No partner necessary- you will be paired up during the workshop.3. Moving Stuck Energy- Releasing the Hips and Gluteals in Pigeon Poses
Learn to effectively assist the release of tight muscles in the low back and hips in Pigeon poses. Multi-sensational learning! Beginning with a visual lecture on the energetics and physicality of the pelvic and sacro-iliac regions, you will learn about what gets locked up in these areas and how to help. Then watch a demonstration and use specialized Bodywork Techniques to assist a partner in creating more space and freedom in their Piriformis muscles, Deep Lateral Rotators, Gluteals, & Erector spinae muscles. No partner necessary- you will be paired up during the workshop.

Unlock the power of your Breath! Increase your Energy, by going on a kinesthetic and visual Anatomy journey into the energetics and biomechanics of opening your breath. You will learn through an exciting lecture about how the breath gets shut down, how this affects EVERYTHING from digestion, to sleep, to concentration levels, and more importantly- how to help it. Then observe and use specialized hand-on Bodywork Techniques to assist a partner in opening the Diaphragm muscle, Rectus Abdominus, & Pectoralis minor muscles, awakening greater potential and energy from their breath. No partner necessary- you will be paired up during the workshop.

WORKSHOP SHOP SERIES #5

Forrest Yoga Continuing Education Training for Yoga Teachers
This 3-day course is designed for all yoga teachersaspiring to improve their teaching and personal practice. It is for those who are ready to move deeper within themselves through exploration of the rich tapestry of Forrest Yoga. The aim of the training is to make you a more skillful, passionate, compassionate and intelligent teacher, so you are better equipped to deal with whatever challenges you and your students may face. Trainees will be encouraged and empowered to develop both as individuals and as teachers. You will be coached to teach from who you are, learn to work with injuries, and skillfully work with hands-on assisting.
In the FYCET, you will have the opportunity to:

    • • Study, tailor and improve your own yoga practice
    • • Learn to work with injuries
    • • Communicate clearly and specifically
    • • Gain a greater understanding of the poses and their effect
    • • Learn about sequencing, aligning poses to work progressively deeper and without injury
    • • Participate in teaching critiques
    • • Explore optimal personal nutrition
    • • Develop personal and professional ethics and boundaries in teaching
    • • Engage in sadhanas (spiritual exercises)
    • • Strengthen your authentic voice

DAILY SCHEDULE:
Morning: 630 – 900AM, 2.5-hour Forrest Yoga Intensive – includes Native American Ceremony, Chanting, Meditation, and Asana/Pranayama Practice
Afternoon: 12:30 – 5:00 PM, Training / Teaching Practicum / Instruction

Training Course Requirements:
You are eligable to take this course if you have completed a 200-hour teacher training. If you are interested but are not yet at the 200-hour level, please contact Bodyworkyoga@gmail.com. The full 3-Day course is only open to those who plan to be there 100% of the time during the hours posted.
