How I got started in this work

Back in 1999, I was hitchhiking from Budapest with Munich with my girlfriend from Hungary. (now my wife :) The morning after we arrived I woke up with a crick in my neck. It HURT and felt electrical and numb if I tried to turn my head to the left.

Our friend who we were staying with was working that day in this old industrial zone that was converted into party-zone, with about 15 different themed night-clubs in the old busted-out factories. That day each club was having their doors thrown open to all the children of that district in Munich and each club had cool activities for them to do. Our friend worked at a Psychedelic Trance club which was totally dark, but totally bright from all the black-light paintings which must have been so wild and cool for these little German children to experience. In our club, the kids made giant dragon costumes out of recycled cardboard and materials and play acted as mythical creatures.

At the club, our friend introduced me to her friend who only spoke German, which I do not know. She signaled me to sit down and then put her hands on my back. Within seconds I had many feelings moving through me. First, I could feel her awareness exploring twists and turns of my Anatomy's tight and stuck spots. I felt her not simply rubbing my back, but truly feeling where my stuck spots and how tension patterns radiated from there. She would follow these tension patterns out from stuck tight spots and then follow them back in and then find a new line off connected tightness and follow that into new territory and then back in. After 30 or 40 minutes of work, I stood up, felt my breath relax, my neck cricked back, pain disappeared, and I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do with my life for the next few years. I had to learn what she did to me. Before that I had never felt someone explore my body in such a way. So, soon after we hitch-hiked back to Budapest, I left for back home and began taking Bodywork Classes in Los Angeles initially at the Institute for Psycho-Structural Balancing, then the Shiatsu Massage School of California, where I met my Bodywork Mentor, Dr. Vincent Medici, whom I still believe today is one of the best Bodyworkers I have ever seen. It is he who referred me to my next Great Teacher, Ana Forrest, who I began training with in 2002.
